Tips for Choosing a Whole Home Sound System

by Ramona Lawrence

If you are a homeowner, you might want to be able to listen to your music as you move from room to room without having to carry around a portable speaker or play music out of the tinny speaker on your phone. However, if you don't have a whole home sound system, you won't be able to do this. This can make it more difficult for you to motivate yourself to clean the house or do other home projects. Here are some tips for choosing a whole home sound system should you choose to rectify this problem.

1. Make Sure You Can Connect it to Your Phones, But That It's Protected

The first thing that you want to do is make sure that there is an option for you to connect your phone and for everyone else in your household to connect their phones to the speakers. This is great because you probably listen to the majority of your music on your phone now and you might be logged into Spotify or some other music streaming service. You might even have music files stored on your phone. This is probably going to be the most convenient way for you to access your sound system at this point, especially with the use of voice commands that you might have set up on your phone.

However, you want to be sure that just you and your family can access your speaker system. Make sure that it is on a closed network that requires a password to access or that it's directly connected to your home's wireless internet. This will allow you to make sure that neighbors won't try to play their own music through your sound system.

2. Make Sure It's Localized

You also want to be sure that there is the option for one person to play music on their phone in the kitchen, but for another person to play music on the speakers through a record player. You want to be able to access each room's speakers individually but also have the option of having music play throughout the entire house if so desired. Talk to the company that installs your sound system about making this a reality.

3. Consider Including Voice Controls

Finally, consider having voice controls built into the speaker system itself. Even if the commands just raise and lower the volume, they will make the sound system much more useful.
